It has been such an amazing journey from start to finish.Īs for more books in the series, Kings Rising will be the last Captive Prince novel, but I will be releasing three short stories set in the Captive Prince universe, which will be available later in 2016. I devoured Dessen novel after Dessen novel during this period of my life, so when I found out her new novel, Saint Anything, was released this April, a wave of nostalgia washed over me the way waves crash on the beach in the town of Colby. "The Nickel Boys" is based on the story of the Dozier School for Boys in northern Florida, a reform school infamous for its mistreatment and brutal punishment of boys who were sent there and for buried bodies discovered on its grounds. On her website Hopkins says, “ Crank began as a personal exploration of the ‘why’s’ behind my daughter’s decisions, and what part I might have played in them. It is written in the voice of her daughter. Crank is loosely based on the true story of Hopkins’ daughter’s addiction to crank, a form of methamphetamine. The two books couldn’t be more opposite in content and style. ![]() ![]() At the same time, but in a totally different way, Ellen Hopkins‘ work, particularly Crank, has proven very influential for me. Two weeks ago I blogged about the impact that Karen Hesse’s book Out of the Dust had on the writing of my own debut book, Crazy. ![]() ![]() ![]() In Dragon's Lair: Escape from Singe's Castle, the just-rescued Daphne has been cursed and falls asleep, but Dirk brings her back to life with a kiss, only to see her vanish. The story has been described by Crash as "a cross between an Arthurian romance and George and the Dragon".
